The first Netherlands Talks event was hosted by Dutch media partner De Volkskrant on November 3, 2020. The event had nearly 8000 sign ups, and participants were matched together based on questions such as "Should masks be required in stores and other indoor spaces?", "Should meat become twice as expensive to reduce meat consumption?", and about the controversial Dutch Christmas figure - "Should Zwarte Piet be forbidden?"
On March 21, 2021, De Volkskrant organised a second round of Netherlands Talks, this time with eight other Dutch media partners: Tubantia, Eindhovens Dagblad, de Stentor, de Gelderlander, PZC, AD, Brabants Dagblad and BN DeStem. In the second iteration, they asked questions such as "Should a corona vaccine be mandatory?", "Do you think everyone in the Netherlands get equal opportunities, regardless of their origin?", and "Should we switch to nuclear power to meet our climate goals?"
