July updates, our latest projects in Germany and Switzerland

Updates from My Country Talks

Dear friends of My Country Talks,

Welcome to the July edition of the My Country Talks newsletter. We hope you have been keeping cool in what, for many, is an unprecedented summer. This month we bring you updates on two events, one in the German city of Mannheim, and a bilingual event in Switzerland. Plus, our friends at Z2X are hosting their annual conference for youth, and have some recommendations for good readings to keep the summer heat at bay.

Our Funders

My Country Talks has become an internationally operating NGO, with dialogue programs around the whole world. This would not have been possible without the support of our funders. This year, our special thanks go to:

  • The King Baudouin Foundation
  • Robert Bosch Stiftung
  • The German Ministry for Family under the project "Demokratie Leben"

Thanks to their generous support, we are able to launch over 10 national and local programs this year and in 2023.

Mannheim spricht

On July 16, residents of the city of Mannheim were matched for a one-on-one conversation about controversial local issues. This was the second edition of Mannheim spricht after the first successful pilot in 2021, which also launched our My City Talks series. The event was funded by The German Ministry for Family under the project "Demokratie leben!"

The event was organized by the city of Mannheim, together with the Mannheimer Abendakademie where a closing event was held last Saturday. Participants came together in person for a live program featuring the local musician and social worker Tobias Schirneck.

Switzerland Talks

Should parental leave in Switzerland be longer? Compared to other countries, did the Swiss government manage covid-19 well enough? Should Switzerland arm itself?

If you live in Switzerland and have strong opinions on these questions, sign up for #Lasstunsreden or #Parlons-en! Switzerland Talks is organized by Pro Futuris, and will take place at the end of September. Participants can sign up until the end of August to meet their political opposite and have a conversation in French or German.

Experience Z2X Live

Do you have ideas on how to solve today’s crises? Are you between 20 and 29 years old? Then sign up to experience the Z2X Festival, live in Berlin.

Z2X is the conference for young people to meet. On September 3rd and 4th, visionaries, activists, founders and scientists between 20 and 29 years old will gather to discuss the future of the world. Come meet your peers, find comrades-in-arms for your next project, or get inspired by the ideas of others.
